Poker Betting Limits
Betting in poker is generally structured in a two-tiered fashion. The lower level of betting occurs before the draw in the draw poker variations or in the early rounds of the stud games. The upper level occurs after the draw in the draw poker games and in the later rounds in the stud variations. Some commonly used betting structures are $l-$2, $l-$3, $5-$ 10, and $15-$30, though other limits are found as well.
In a $5-$ 10 limit game, when the lower limit of betting is in effect, all bets and raises must be in $5 increments. When the upper range is in effect, all bets and raises must be in $10 increments. We'll discuss when the lower and upper ranges of betting are in play for each of the games during the sections covering the individual poker variations.
The betting limits of casino games are generally posted above the table. You can also learn them by asking the dealer or one of the players. The betting limits of private games are prearranged and agreed upon by the players before playing.
